Author Appetizers | How To Find (Great) Indie Books
Let The Nibbling Begin!
Social Media.
The word can strike fear and excitement into the hearts of marketing groups and everyday people alike.
What will my next post be?
Will it go to all the people I want it to.
Will they like it?
It’s just a photo of my spaghetti/cat/new car/latest cool thing/selfie, but I spent so much time putting it together.
What if no one likes it?
What if…everyone likes it!?!
What if I become viral!?!
Become one of those mythical creatures called an “Influencer.”
I could take over the world!!!
(Grand arm gesture in the general direction of the sky where lightning shoots down to my upraised fist as thunder crashes and lights explode behind me for no apparent reason.)
"A cornucopia spilling feast of author goodies that will fill you to bursting like an overindulged child on (American) Thanksgiving."
Where No Cheeseburger Has Been Eaten Before
But there amidst all the people who are “generating content” for content’s sake with the goal of grandiose results and even grander disappointment, there contentedly live the every-dayers using Social Media for a purpose so basic it can’t do anything except be quietly successful and steadily grow.
They are reaching out to their audience and having a conversation.
That’s it.
People honestly and steadily giving what they have to give with no big frills or Million Dollar giveaways or sexy promises, scandalous high profile events or juicy rolls in smelly scandals.
Like a puppy rolling in something it dragged out of the garbage. Or the woods.
And many of these steady-neddies are Indie Authors.
Build It And They Will Come
One of the big tenants that many Social Media channel creators teach (and these are the people whose big thing is teaching other people how to make their Social Media account of choice the next big thing.) is organic growth.
All the grow, less calories?
More fiber?
Yep, just keep posting on a regular, really focused on one (look out, here’s another trendy keyword) niche and their specific audience and said audience will slowly grow and grow.
And they will be real people that really like what you are doing.
And not inflated numbers from mining “likes” or “Follows” like some grinding mission on your favorite MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game).
(Grinding in gaming has nothing to do with your backside, except sitting on it for hours at a time…)
(I’ve totally never done that.)
(I’m totally fibbing.)
But back to these slow budding Indie Author social media accounts, that are being planted with so many seeds of delightful information that when you do discover their author garden you will walk through with the sunshine on your back, the buzzing of info bees around your brain, transporting you to a contented place of connecting to your most recent Favorite Book.
Overgrown story garden plots giving behind the scenes on a favorite series, favorite book, favorite character. Inspiration. Ideas for the future. Fun art. Kickstarter goodies. Merch…
A cornucopia spilling feast of author goodies that will fill you to bursting like an overindulged child on (American) Thanksgiving.
Even if at the kid’s table.
Tiny pickles. And black olives to put on all of your fingers and eat them off one by one. Deviled eggs with the weird red dust (paprika – smoked paprika if it’s done right) and rivers of gravy in a meteor hole in my mashed potatoes.
Yeah, just convert all of that to books and stories, and you have got the beauty of Authors on social media.
Scroll, favorite, like, rewatch, read – CLICK THE LINKS! You will not be sorry.
Tell Me More
Social Media for authors is a huge slow burn place to connect to their readers and create a haven of fun bite-sized information that you can snack on before you dive into the main course of Author Info that can turn your New Favorite Book into an extended interactive experience after you turn that last page.
But what is the Main Course?
Come back next week and I will absolutely set a chair at the kiddie cart-table just special for you to part take in the yummy meal. And help you find Your Next Favorite Book – family style.
Until then!
A Strange SOCIAL MEDIA Story? Oh, Yes!!!
In The Dreams Of Many Bodies
A Bryant Street Story
by Dean Wesley Smith
Harry Stentz killed Cindy Wilson thirty-four years ago.
He even knew exactly where he buried her.
But there, on social media, she appeared with kids and grandkids. And an old picture of herself, the same woman he knew he’d killed.
A twisted short story of a man and a basement on Bryant Street.
